Local Blueberries

Mohan and I are making our way through the summer picking local fruits and making them into jam . . . We started with rhubarb and mint from the Fayerweather Street School garden, moved on to strawberries from Verrill Farm in Concord; cherries (courtesy of Market Basket in Somerville); and now on to blueberries. For this adventure, we checked out Blue Meadow Farm in Sudbury. They don’t seem to have a web page, so here’s the info from the MDAR website.

Blue Meadow Farm
Address: 118 Nobscot Road Sudbury
Phone: (978) 443-3880
Picking: Call after 6pm for next day picking conditions, no children under 6, no dogs, containers provided.
Directions: Take Rt. 128 to Rt. 20 west, over Sudbury River, take left after Friendly’s (on left) onto Nobscot Rd. Sign on left.
Hours: Open Tues. through Sun., 8am to 6pm, early July through early September. Closed Monday.

This is large and extremely well kept farm with a white house out front, a very substantial red (horse?) barn at the back. Two very large fields of blueberries surrounded by netting just down the hill from the parking area. Blueberries are $4/quart and according to the gentleman who collected our money, they have not been sprayed. We picked at the height of the day and it was hot. Price was the same per quart as the (already picked!) blueberries on offer at Verrill Farm from Sterling, MA but I have to say these were delicious and held up very well on the ride home. Would come again, earlier in the day.

  • As of 7/25/13 — Currently open and “picking conditions are excellent” Fri – Sun 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Can’t wait to get over there!

  • We visited again in mid-August. Blueberries were still going, and even more delicious than before. The gentelman said they’re closed after Labor Day.
