The other night I was staying up late to pay bills and get my life in order, to the extent that is possible ): While doing this, I ended up listening to covers of “Gulf Coast Highway” by Nancy Griffith and came across this Texas duo doing an incredible rendition of this song. I then found two more songs by Walt (with Tina in one) that I found incredibly moving. This quality of singing and songwriting could really inspire me to do more music.
Gulf Coast Highway (Cover)
The song itself is a bit sentimental (romanticized?) but so beautifully done by these two. My favorite cover.
Trains I’ve Missed (written by Walt Wilkins)
Even my husband, the lover of Indian classical music, appreciated this one. There’s a lot of dharma going on here . . . (lyrics below)
Someone Somewhere Tonight (written by Walt Wilkins with David Raines)
Trains I’ve Missed Lyrics
Here’s to the trains I’ve missed
The loves I lost
The bridges I burned
The rivers I never crossed
Here’s to the call I didn’t hear
The signs I didn’t heed
The roads I couldn’t take
The maps that I just wouldn’t read
It’s a big old world
But I’ve found my way
And the hell and the hurt
Led me straight to this
Here’s to the trains I’ve missed
I’ve been a clown I’ve been a fool
And I pushed on every chance
I crossed too many lines trying to crawl out of God’s hands
And there are stones I didn’t throw
Hearts I didn’t break
And a little hope I held onto with a silver shining thread of faith
It’s a big old world
But I’ve found my way
And the hell and the hurt
Led me straight to this
Here’s to the trains I missed
And here’s to this place I found
And the love I know
The earth and the sky here that I call home
Here’s to the things that I believe, bigger than me
And the moments I find myself right where I wanna be
It’s a big old world
But I’ve found my way
And the hell and the hurt
Led me straight to this
It’s a big old world
But I’ve found my way
And the hell and the hurt
Led me straight to this
Here’s to the trains I missed
